Privacy Policy

This explains what Understudy (“we,” “us”) collects when you use understudyworks.com, how we use it, and the choices you have. We collect only what we need to answer you.
What we collect
- What you send us. When you join the waitlist we collect your name, email address, and whatever you choose to put in the business name, category, budget, timing and description fields.
- Basic technical data. Our host records standard server information such as IP address, browser type and pages requested, in order to serve the site and block abuse.
- Anonymous counts, and nothing else. We count things like how many people opened this page, ran the demo, or started the waitlist form. Those are totals only — a number going up by one. We do not set a cookie, do not store your IP address, browser, or referring site, and do not create any identifier for you. Nothing recorded can be traced back to a person, including by us. That is why there is no cookie banner on this site: there is nothing to consent to.
- No third-party tracking. No analytics service, no advertising pixels, no marketing cookies. The counting is done by our own server, and the numbers never leave it.
How we use it
- To reply to you and discuss work you have asked us about.
- To email you about Understudy’s launch and availability.
- To keep the site secure and working.
We do not sell, rent or share your information with anyone for their own marketing.
Who processes it
- Netlify — website hosting and form delivery. Your submission is stored in our Netlify account and emailed to us.
- Resend — email delivery. When we reply to you, Resend sends that message on our behalf and processes your email address in order to deliver it.
- Google Fonts — the typefaces on this page are served by Google, which means your browser requests a file from Google and Google sees your IP address in the course of serving it.
All three are based in the United States, so if you contact us from outside the US your information is transferred to and stored there.
Automated handling — please read this one
Understudy is largely run by its own software. When you join the waitlist, an automated system reads what you wrote, sorts it, and may write and send you a reply without a person having read it first. Sam Bartolotta sets the rules it follows, reads what it sends, and is responsible for all of it.
We are telling you this because you deserve to know when you are corresponding with software. If you would rather deal only with a human, say so in your message or reply to any email and ask — we will take you off automated handling and Sam will answer you himself. No automated decision is made about you that has a legal or similarly significant effect.
How long we keep it
Waitlist submissions are kept while we are still in touch with you about work, and no longer than three years after our last contact, unless you ask us to delete it sooner.
Your choices
You can ask us at any time to show you what we hold, correct it, delete it, or stop emailing you. Email hello@understudyworks.com and we will action it. There is no form to fill out and no waiting period.
If you are in the UK, EU, or another region with data-protection laws
The data controller is Sam Bartolotta, Conway, Arkansas, USA, reachable at the address below. We rely on your consent (you chose to join the waitlist) and on our legitimate interest in replying to a business enquiry you sent us.
You have the right to ask for a copy of what we hold, to have it corrected or deleted, to restrict or object to how we use it, and to receive it in a portable format. You can withdraw consent at any time. Email us and we will action it — there is no form and no waiting period. If you believe we have handled your data badly, you may complain to your local supervisory authority.
Children
This site is meant for business owners and operators. It is not directed at children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect their information.
Changes
If this policy changes we will update the effective date above. Material changes will be noted on this page.
